In November 2020 we completed our 7th annual harvest with the harvest of 101 hectares. Since our first harvest in 2013 we have harvested over 500 hectares.
Our harvesting process includes the felling of trees and the extraction (coring) of the stump and root-ball. Specialised equipment is used for each operation.
We collect and analyse data from every harvest so we can improve forestry performance in the future. This information allows us to continuously build our knowledge and understanding of the species and also how to grow the best quality wood for our investors.
Below are some videos and photos of the harvesting process for you to explore!
The Feller-buncher cuts the trees down at the base.
Our QA team records information about the heartwood from every harvest tree
The Corer removes the root ball from below the ground. The central root system can contain up to 30% of the total oil in the tree.
The felled trees are cut down into logs.
The logs are collected from the field.
The harvest produce is taken to our processing facility for processing and storing.
The produce from the 2020 harvest includes logs, butt (stump and rootball) and forest shavings.
The harvest produce is delivered, processed and stored securely at our three facilities in Kununurra. These storage facilities are termite treated and fitted with security cameras and smoke detectors.
The logs are stacked and presented for sale. The butts are secured in over 850 custom-made cages. The aroma of sandalwood’s sweet and powerful scent is present at all locations.
